If your stainless steel baskets need a little more TLC, deep cleaning can be done without the use of harsh chemicals to preserve the finish. Try using a simple baking soda paste or vinegar to remove grime and buildup. You will need:
- Baking soda paste OR a vinegar solution
- Soft cloth or sponge
- Paper towels
The baking soda paste method: Mix a small amount of water with baking soda to make a thick paste. Apply the paste to the affected areas of your wire basket and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing gently with a sponge or cloth. Rinse and wipe down with a dry paper towel.
The vinegar method: Mix equal parts distilled white vinegar and water to create a cleaning solution that works on stains, grease, and other buildup. We recommend using a spray bottle to apply the solution to the basket. Let it sit, scrub gently, and rinse well.
If your wire baskets have small or fine mesh, a soft nylon brush will be highly effective for cleaning out debris and grease from the small mesh intersections. If the mesh gets clogged, try fully submerging the mesh in white vinegar before scrubbing it with the brush to dislodge the gunk.
Pro Tip: Avoid bleach or chloride cleaners at all costs, as they can cause the stainless steel to pit or corrode.
